Last month my career took a turn when I resigned as Association Secretary of OAQP to accept a position with PrintLink Canada. While it was difficult to say goodbye, I am excited about my new role that will allow me to continue working with my colleagues in the print industry.

PrintLink is an industry-specific employment agency that provides staffing solutions for senior and middle management positions in the print business. PrintLink demonstrates a high standard of professionalism, personal attention and strict confidentiality to both employers and job seekers, while assisting both sides to find the most productive match possible. The employer pays a service fee based on a percentage of the first year's salary once the position is filled.

PrintLink has built a trustworthy reputation by following a strong work ethic. They do not recruit candidates from existing employers but qualify candidates who contact the agency directly. Most candidates are actively employed and want to explore new opportunities discreetly – a situation that gives employers the benefit of accessing hard-to-reach, motivated employees.

Company's president and founder, Arnie Kahn, started the agency in Rochester, NY over a decade ago, after he selling his print company. To create a specialized staffing resource, he hired only industry-savvy personnel with proven practical experience in the varied facets of printing. PrintLink now provides staffing services all across Canada and the US. Four-and-a-half years ago, Myrna Penny was hired as Managing Director of the expanding Canadian operation. I will be working with Myrna as a Placement Specialist.

According to those who read the pulse of the industry, companies that have downsized are being very selective in their current hiring practices. To stay competitive, companies recognize the need for high calibre employees, and they are willing to take their time and utilize resources to find the right candidate for each position.

PrintLink has the tools and relationships to help employers save time so they can devote their attention on their day-to-day business. Finding the right employee can be time consuming – especially sorting through unqualified resumes. PrintLink pre-screens all applicants and gathers detailed information about each position. They then provide employers with the resumes of qualified candidates, along with a summary of their unique assets.

The Canadian Printing Industries Association's first quarter Canadian print market survey revealed that almost two-thirds of respondents project that they will be hiring employees over the next three to six months. About a third expect to hire workers for new positions, while 15 per cent expect to hire replacements. Four out of ten respondents expect to hire for both.

“Equipment and technology are wonderful tools,” says Myrna. “The key is finding qualified people.”

If your company can use professional support in meeting your staffing needs, Myrna and I look forward to speaking with you. Call PrintLink toll free at: 877-413-2600.
