Wow! What an Olympics that was! With 10 gold, 10 silver and five bronze, Canada finished fourth in the overall standings and third in total gold medals. But for most, it was the Women’s hockey 3-2 overtime win over the United States (after trailing 2-0 with about three minutes to go in regulation time) that was the most exciting moment. Special congratulations to Tim and Suzanne Wakefield of Canadian mailing and fulfillment leader Insource, whose daughter Jennifer played her heart out after a bad crash into the boards early in the tournament. Now that’s taking the word “fulfillment” to an entirely new level.

I must also congratulate Gordon McCauley, the new President of Prodigy Graphics, for his recent acquisition of the company. I stopped by his shop in Vaughan late last week and the presses were whizzing away as always. Founded in 1976, the sheetfed and web printing company is an acknowledged Canadian pioneer in the trade printing industry.

We have some interesting articles this month in addition to our regular features. These include stories on output-neutral workflows, image capture, a look at how the government’s Industrial Research Assistance Program can help printers, and a wonderful profile of Willow Printing’s President and industry veteran Jeff Ekstein. We’ll also explore some 3D printing options. In fact, 3D printing equipment is becoming more and more popular and has found a new home in some public libraries across Canada.

We recently posted our entire February edition online for easy viewing and click-through reading. We’ll be doing this every month from now on – and you can subscribe for free to our digital editions and/or printed editions by simply visiting our website ( This is great news not just for our readers, but for our advertisers as well, who’ll enjoy added exposure.

Continuing with our online sales efforts, we also initiated our affordable e-mail blast service in January, and are getting excellent feedback. And we’re still promoting our other online marketing strategies for printers – such as microsites, press releases, SEO, blogs and several others. You can call me personally at 1-877-513-3999 to discuss options and how our experienced team will work closely with you to help grow your business.
