View from the publisher – October 2016

Wow! What a month of show-and-tell for the printing industry! Our team did more walking on tradeshow floors in the month of September than we did in the past eight months! First, we visited the 2016 SGIA Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, September 14-16. The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association brought together specialty imaging professionals who showcased their amazing equipment, technology and applications. We also distributed 1,500 copies of our magazine at the front of the show as visitors entered. A number of generous equipment manufacturers, including Agfa, held a special party after the show for Canadian attendees that attracted over 400. It was a wonderful evening and I’d like to thank them personally.

Then we were off to Consac’s Sign Expo Canada September 23-24 at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. The Sign Association of Canada’s national tradeshow attracted people from all over the world to see the very best that the Canadian sign industry has to offer. All told, upwards of 3,500 registrants explored its 150 booths where the latest wide format products, equipment and technology were on display. The vehicle wrap area was particularly busy. We also gave away a weekend for two in Niagara Falls at our booth. As usual, The Sign Association did a wonderful job organizing this event.

Then, we flew from Toronto immediately after Sign Expo Canada to Graph Expo September 25-28 in Orlando, Florida. This year in particular, show organizer Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC) placed special emphasis on actionable business solutions for printers that focused on four key areas:  how to increase your sales, adapting your business to the newest trends and technologies, growth strategies and new business opportunities, and managing costs and improving efficiencies. GASC also went to great lengths to attract our industry’s best business minds.

We also distributed 2,500 copies of our magazine at the front of the show as visitors entered, as well as hundreds of copies at our booth. We ended this amazing annual event by giving away a ticket to nearby Walt Disney World in a special draw.
