It’s the month of pumpkin spiced everything, giving thanks, Halloween and cozy sweaters. Now that the kids are all back in school, and there is some routine back in your days, we hope that you will enjoy the issue with some semblance of calm. Coincidentally the articles in this issue feel like little lessons to start your sweater season off right.
You can start learning with a great list of potential marketing traps from John Foley, Jr. Also in the issue is a feature on iconic graphic designs by Olivia Parker, and an article on business management basics by Diana Varma – which was actually inspired by her newborn daughter! Looking forward into the future, Bonny Koabel shares some exciting grant opportunities for innovative capital investments and Tony Curcio explores the world of printed electronics.
I also had the opportunity to contribute an article about retail-ready packaging. This is an exciting area of change in packaging and retailing. I hope it will help you understand the market and explore its potential for your business. If you are interested in learning more, two resources I would suggest are the PAC (www.pac.ca) as well as attending some of the signage shows this October. SGIA is in New Orleans this month (October 10 – 12th) and the Canadian Sign Expo is in Toronto (October 27 – 28th). While the sign industry is not synonymous with retail displays and the type of packaging discussed in the article, some of the forward-looking digital printing opportunities share vendors. In fact, the SGIA is hosting some great educational tracks specifically for packaging.
In addition to some of these resources, I do have some changes to share with you. As you may have already read in the previous issue, we are thrilled to have Filomena Tamburri joining our team as Editor in Chief! While I have enjoyed pouring my heart out about print and cozy sweaters for the last nine years, I will now step away from doing the editorial column each month. Instead, I will continue to focus my energy to covering topics in areas of packaging, technology and business. As always, if there are topics you would like us to cover, or something you would like to learn about, please feel free to reach out!
