Ryerson University’s February 4 Colloquium to explore Big Data in the printing industry

Students in the Graphic Communications Management (GCM) program at Ryerson University in downtown Toronto are hosting their annual Colloquium event on Thursday, February 4, 2016, with presentations beginning at 6:30 pm.The Ryerson Colloquium is an opportunity for industry professionals and current students to discuss relevant issues and connect with like-minded peers in the printing and graphic communications industry. This year’s theme is REACT: Big Data, Big Possibilities in Print.

Big Data is crucial in many industries today because it allows companies to take a closer look at who, when, why, and how consumers are connecting with their businesses. Leading industry speakers will present a variety of insightful topics on Big Data as a tool, specifically related to the printing and graphic communications industry.

Speakers include:

• Sylvain Perrier, President and CEO of Mercatus Technologies.

• Ayse Basar Bener, Professor and Director of the Data Science Lab at Ryerson University.

• Rishie Singh, Director of Data Mining at Rogers Media.

Registration will begin at 6 pm and presentations will begin at 6:30 pm. A panel discussion, question-and-answer session, and a brief reception will follow in the Graphic Communications Management lobby. All members of the industry are invited to attend.

The GCM Colloquium is a popular annual event organized by Ryerson GCM students. Each year the students plan an evening in which leading industry speakers are invited to discuss relevant topics in the printing industry. The event also offers networking opportunities, food and refreshments.
