Quark names Hickey CEO and Friske President and COO

Quark Software (Denver, Colorado), a leader in sales enablement, content automation and desktop publishing, has announced that senior technology executive Chris Hickey has been named Chief Executive Officer. Interim CEO Victor Shepherd has been promoted to the position of Chairman of the Board for Quark. Hickey joins Quark from cloud-based data services firm RingLead, where as CEO he quintupled company valuation by increasing market adoption and driving revenue growth. “In the world of content services and content solutions, Quark is a powerhouse,” said Hickey. “The technical expertise and calibre of software produced here is second-to-none. As CEO, I’ll capitalize on Quark’s strengths, make transformational changes to our sales, marketing and partner strategies, and draw on my experience in both B2B and B2C software to increase the adoption of our content solutions. This year we’ll continue to grow three lines of distinct and integrated business units – desktop publishing with QuarkXPress and App Studio, sales enablement with Docurated, and content automation with Quark’s award-winning platform. Any organization with a content challenge should have Quark on its shortlist.”

Hickey is an accomplished leader of high-tech corporations, ranging from start-ups to multi-billion-dollar enterprises, with expertise in cloud computing, enterprise data management, Software as a Service (SaaS), storage security and sales-enablement technologies. Prior to RingLead, Hickey has also held leadership positions at Teq (the largest reseller of SMART technologies), Total Defense (a global leader in malware threat detection and anti-crimeware solutions), and CA Technologies. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Technology with a concentration in Marketing from Central Connecticut State University.

Quark Software has also announced that John Friske, Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Services, has been promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer. In his new role, Friske will be responsible for the continued delivery of world-class products, service and support to Quark’s global network of customers. “We know that Quark’s success depends on the success of our clients,” he said. “With that in mind, our global sales and services teams are committed to supporting customers across three lines of business to ensure the successful rollout and use of our solutions. I look forward to my continued engagement with our customers who are leaders in their own industries and have helped make Quark the company we are today.” In his tenure at Quark, Friske played a critical role in sales and customer engagement as well as product direction and development. Friske joined the company as part of Quark’s acquisition of In.vision Research Corporation in 2008. In.vision pioneered XML authoring solutions for non-technical authors, and the company’s flagship product is the foundation of Quark XML Author for Microsoft Word. Prior to his current role at Quark, Friske served as SVP of Global Sales and Services and Vice President, Global Professional Services, and General Manager at XML Products. Before joining Quark, Friske spent two decades establishing high technology firms specializing in the development and deployment of enterprise software solutions. As President and CEO of in/sync Data Products and In.vision Research Corporation, Friske built and grew both organizations through successful sales growth, customer satisfaction, and venture capital, ultimately leading to the successful acquisitions of both organizations. Friske studied philosophy at California State University, Fullerton.
