Techkon (Danvers, MA), a leader in high-precision colour measurement solutions for the global print and packaging markets, has announced its strategic OEM partnership with Screen Americas (Rolling Meadows, Ill), a leading graphic solutions company with a strong focus on production-class inkjet printing technology. Its product portfolio includes Truepress inkjet printers and presses, PlateRite thermal platesetters and PDF/JDF-based workflow solutions for computer-to-plate and print-on-demand. The strategic partnership is significant, said the OEM’s, because Screen Americas will be including the Techkon SpectroDens handheld spectro-densitometer as a core component of each new customer’s Equios colour management workflow solution. This new integrated solution is also standard for all configurations of the Truepress press series – including the TPJ 520ZZ, TPJ 520NX, and TPJ 520HD.

The SpectroDens was chosen by Screen for “its unsurpassed ease of use, versatility, and colour measurement accuracy.” Of particular interest to Screen was the side-aperture design of the SpectroDens that makes alignment of the device quick and easy for the operator. In addition, Screen was also impressed with the ability to seamlessly switch between spot colour measurements and colour-bar scanning without requiring the purchase or installation of additional accessories. “In the Screen colour eco-system, the SpectroDens will play an integral role in capturing colour measurements to allow for colour calibration, and to ensure colour consistency of the Truepress line across a variety of print media,” said the OEMs.

The Truepress Jet520 series remains the best-selling inkjet press for the direct-mail, transactional, commercial print and book-printing markets with more than 1,500 machines manufactured by Screen since the first model Truepress Jet520S was launched in 2007. Conventional commercial print job lengths have been reduced as the industry shift to full-colour, variable-data printing that targets the specific needs of a particular customer or market segment continues. The Truepress Jet520 series addresses a variety of business opportunities in the world of one-to-one printing, and work requiring ultrafast turnarounds. In addition to printing different images and text at high quality on each page, the Truepress Jet520 series features extremely fast, high-volume printing. With its ability to print onto a wide range of paper types (including standard coated papers with the TPJ 520HD SC Inks,) the Truepress Jet520 series offers the flexibility and productivity demanded by today’s variable-data printing market.

The SpectroDens remains the fastest handheld spectro-densitometer on the market today, said Techkon. Its measurement head allows a single spot-colour measurement approximately every second while the patented, side-aperture design allows the operator to easily position the optics over the desired measurement location, for even faster operation. The high-resolution spectral engine fully complies with ISO-13655 requirements and enables spectral sampling in 10 nm intervals, from 400 nm to 700 nm, for even more accurate M0, M1, M2, & M3 measurements. Its uni-body case is precisely machined from a single block of aluminum to maximize durability and reliability in harsh production environments. Additionally, an encoder is embedded in the instrument that allows for scanning of colour bars up to 40 inches in length in only 10 seconds, without the need for additional accessories.
