If there’s one thing I’ve learned after spending 50-plus years in this industry (other than the hard work put in by printers 24/7), is their generosity when it comes to helping worthwhile causes and giving back to their respective communities – both here and south of the border. Tandem Printing in Eagan, Minnesota has been an inspirational example of this altruism for more than a decade. This year the shop collected nearly 14,000 toys for the holiday season, and donated them to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots Program. Tandem Printing has been a National Corporate Donor to Toys for Tots for the past 14 years! Not only that, it also serves as an official drop-off location for the Twin Cities’ (Minneapolis and St. Paul) southeast metro area. Tandem staff played a major role in donation recruitment from existing customers, as well as from over 50 neighboring businesses and organizations. The drive was an opportunity for employees to support children and military veterans in the communities where they live and work. That’s a lot of work, in addition to their regular responsibilities. “We’re proud to partner with Toys for Tots once again to give less fortunate children a special gift for the holidays,” said Steve Kane, President of Tandem Printing. “Our staff really pitched in to make this year’s drive a success. The Tandem offices were overflowing with donations as a result. We’re so pleased to be able to help fulfill the Christmas holiday dreams of so many.” Special thanks to Glen Fiebich, Tandem’s Prepress Manager and Director of Digital Creative, for writing this special feature.

Tandem Printing – over 64 years of service. As a respected printer in the Twin Cities’ area, and nationally known for the quality of its products and its innovations in technology, Tandem Printing provides a full spectrum of communications services for its customers. The company has deep roots in the community. It was founded in 1954 by Bob and Marilyn Jensen of Richfield, Minnesota. For 37 years, the Jensen’s established a reputation for quality, reliability, service and integrity, as they built their company working in “Tandem” as a successful husband-and-wife team. As the years passed by, the appeal of retirement became stronger, and in 1991 a new “Tandem” – John Kostka and Steve Kane – acquired the company and have continued the values and traditions that had made the shop so successful. Tandem’s experienced staff offers individuals, and businesses large and small, the latest CTP technology, one-colour to six-colour offset printing, large-format printing and digital printing all under one roof – all supported by its in-house prepress and graphic design departments. It also has access to over one million promotional products! The company continually looks for value in integrating all of its production and delivery capabilities into one process, and works closely with its customers to develop new solutions that will assist them in their communication needs. Its production facility is centrally located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota metropolitan area. To learn more, please visit www.tandemprinting.com.

Toys for Tots – 244 million children and counting! The 70-year national charitable program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, provides happiness and hope to disadvantaged children during each Christmas holiday season. The toys, books and other gifts collected and distributed by the Marines offer these children recognition, confidence and positive memories for a lifetime. It’s experiences like these that help children become responsible citizens and caring members of their communities. Last year, the program fulfilled the holiday hopes and dreams of 7 million less fortunate children in 792 communities across the United States. Since 1947, over 244 million children have been assisted. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is a not-for-profit organization authorized by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Department of Defense, to provide fundraising and other necessary support for the annual Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.
